Backlinks, backlinks, backlinks! It’s the fuel for your SEO gas tank. Every link from another site to yours, as long as the link comes from a reputable source, acts as a vote in Google’s eyes that your site’s worth looking at. So the question is, how do you get these high authority backlinks? Today we’re going to talk about one way you can get a link to your site from a high authority source that doesn’t include buying entry to a directory.
If you haven’t yet, get yourself over to AboutUs.org. What you’ll find there is an easy to navigate and easy to read Wiki-style site that’s cataloging websites supplemented with user generated and edited content. By filling the wiki with relevant and useful information about your site, you can bring more hits your way. Not only that, with a quick scan you can get an overview of your site’s on-site SEO.
I did find the SEO scan to be a bit oversimplified, but the opportunity to show off your site using the wiki method is fantastic. Just make sure you create an account, then click the little pencil icon and go to work. The best part is, if you create some compelling copy for your wiki that is useful and original, and you ask one of the moderators nicely, they turn the “NoFollow” attribute off on your page, which in turn can send some nice link juice your way.
I’d never actually updated a Wiki before, so getting my head around the Wiki markup coding took a bit of getting used to, but it is incredibly simple. You can add links to your homepage, add your social networking profiles, and YouTube videos. A good idea for small business would be to add links to Yelp! and other review sites as well.
AboutUs.org’s altruistic intentions really become apparent when you write for support. I received dedicated personalized attention within 12 hours. Where else are you going to get that? Mark Dilley assisted me with some concerns and editing yesterday and was incredibly friendly and helpful.
If you’re not yet taking advantage of AboutUs.org’s offerings yet, it needs to go to the top of your to-do list.
Note: Through June and July, Alameda Internet Marketing will be updating the Wiki’s of all of our current clients on AboutUs.org. All new clients will also have their Wiki optimized as part of any standard SEO service.
